About the Association

The National Association of Family and Small Hotels (OMH) was founded in 2004, driven by the need of a growing number of small hoteliers for an association that would represent their specific interests and enable continuous improvement in the quality of their offerings.

The mission of the OMH Association is to unite the best family and small hotels in Croatia, which stand out for their uniqueness, recognizable quality, and authenticity, ensuring guests an unforgettable experience, giving members a strong voice and better business opportunities, providing the tourism sector with an advanced group, and being a socially and ecologically responsible partner to local communities and the country as a whole.
With the ultimate goal of improving the business conditions for family and small hotels, the Association has set the following primary objectives: creating an internationally competitive product based on quality, uniqueness, individuality, and authenticity; ensuring better conditions for procurement/acquisition of capital, products, and services; gaining credibility and influence with tourism policy makers; raising the quality of accommodation facilities and services through certification programs, education, and consulting.
In order to achieve these goals, the Association has planned activities in the areas of marketing, categorization, certification, inspection, lobbying, education, consulting services, and dissemination of information. The establishment of an internationally recognized brand for Croatian family and small hotels is also foreseen.[1]

The National Association of Family and Small Hotels currently has 146 hotels and 66 high-quality guesthouses and agro-homes as part of its regular and affiliated membership, representing a financially independent interest group across all of Croatia. Over the past two years, the Association has initiated and implemented several significant projects, including the programs ‘Incentive for Success’ and ‘Incentive for Family Hotels’, which provide more favorable financing sources for small hoteliers; the creation of the ‘Family and Small Hotels’ catalog, which is distributed in 120,000 copies in eleven world languages in collaboration with the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ); agreements with around 20 suppliers, including Konzum, Podravka, Croatia Insurance, SMS, HAK, etc., providing members with more favorable discounts and annual bonuses based on achieved sales.

The founding of the OMH Association has undoubtedly proven to be a ‘right project at the right time.’ Given the increasing awareness of the need for a strategic shift in Croatian tourism towards an offer that, in light of the competitive environment, will necessarily have to emphasize the authentic values of the local environment, preserved and well-maintained natural surroundings, an individualized approach to guests, and the imaginative and experiential aspects of the product, OMH, as an entrepreneurial and easily adaptable group to trends, has exceptional potential not only to contribute but also to lead the strategic shift in Croatian tourism.
